Oborevwori Says Sports Promote Healthy Living, Youth Empowerment and National Development
The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Honourable Onoriode Joshua Onos Oborevwori, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace sports as a means of promoting healthy living, developing discipline and contributing to national development.
Speaking in Abuja, Oborevwori described sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, talent discovery, national unity and economic growth, urging young Nigerians to make sporting activities part of their daily lives.
He said active participation in sports helps to build leadership, teamwork, resilience and self-confidence while reducing crime, drug abuse and other social vices among young people.
The Delta Sports Commission Chairman encouraged aspiring athletes to take advantage of sporting competitions and talent development programmes to showcase their abilities, noting that many of Nigeria’s successful sports stars emerged through grassroots initiatives.
He also appealed to governments, educational institutions, private organisations and community leaders to invest more in sports infrastructure and youth development programmes across the country.
According to him, sustained investment in sports will not only produce world-class athletes but also create employment opportunities, strengthen national cohesion and support the country’s overall development.
