Former Commissioner Ifaluyi-Isibor Warns Against Alleged Plan to Remove Opposition Campaign Displays
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ikpoba-Okha/Egor Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, has appealed to the Edo State Government to disregard alleged plans to remove billboards belonging to opposition political parties.
Ifaluyi-Isibor, a former Edo State Commissioner under the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, said he had received information that billboard owners and operators were allegedly given a one-week ultimatum to remove campaign billboards of opposition candidates while leaving those of the ruling party.
He said he could not independently verify the authenticity of the alleged directive but urged the government to abandon any such move if it exists.
Describing the alleged plan as “outdated, preposterous, primitive, ludicrous, capricious, perverse, inordinate and outrageously immoderate,” he argued that Edo State had moved beyond such political practices.
The PDP candidate noted that he has several billboards across the Ikpoba-Okha/Egor Federal Constituency, which he said were paid for in advance, stressing that all political parties should be allowed equal opportunities to promote themselves.
According to him, although official campaigns have not commenced, the billboards currently serve only to create public awareness, adding that the democratic space should remain open to all parties.
He recalled that during the 2023 Edo governorship election, political parties were allowed to freely display campaign materials despite the highly competitive nature of the contest, urging authorities to maintain the same democratic atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I take God beg una,” Ifaluyi-Isibor appealed.
As of the time of filing this report, the Edo State Government had not responded to the claims.
