Sahel Alliance Nations Present Joint Hosting Proposal To CAF President Patrice Motsepe

Three West African nations — Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso — have officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a significant step in their efforts to bring Africa’s biggest football tournament to the Sahel region.
The bid document was formally presented to Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe in New York on Saturday by officials representing the three countries, alongside FIFA representative Colonel Djibrilla Hima Hamidou.
The Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) confirmed the submission, stating that the proposed tournament would serve as a platform to promote unity, strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate football development across Africa.
According to the federation, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso are committed to working together to produce a comprehensive hosting plan that meets CAF’s infrastructure, security and organisational requirements.
The joint bid follows earlier expressions of interest by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), the regional bloc formed by the three countries after their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The alliance says it is focused on deepening cooperation in security, trade, economic development and regional integration.
CAF is yet to announce the successful host nation(s) for the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations, with the selection process expected to continue in the coming years.
If successful, it would mark the first time Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso jointly host Africa’s premier football competition.
