“DON’T SELL YOUR VOTE FOR PEANUTS — VOTE FOR A MAN WITH A RECORD!” — EFEMENA UMUKORO BACKS OMO-AGEGE

2027: URHOBO ACTIVIST REJECTS “EMPTY PROMISES”, CALLS FOR CREDIBILITY, CAPACITY AND PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN DELTA CENTRAL

Comrade Efemena Umukoro, an Urhobo youth mobiliser and rights activist, has urged voters to reject what he described as “emptiness” in politics and instead support candidates with proven records of competence, integrity and public service.

Umukoro made the call while throwing his political weight behind former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, ahead of the 2027 Delta Central Senatorial election.

His position comes as political activities intensify across Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections, with Omo-Agege seeking a return to the Senate under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Omo-Agege joined the NDC in May after leaving the All Progressives Congress and declared his intention to contest the Delta Central seat.

Umukoro argued that voters must move beyond political party colours, financial inducements, ethnic sentiments and campaign promises when choosing their representatives.

According to him, the quality of leadership directly affects the lives of ordinary citizens, making it necessary for voters to scrutinise the records, capacity and integrity of candidates before casting their ballots.

“Bad leadership affects everyone. We must stop voting based on money, party colours, ethnicity or empty promises,” Umukoro said.

He maintained that political candidates should be judged by what they have demonstrated in public service rather than the strength of the political platform on which they contest.

“We must vote for people who have shown capacity in time past and not some empty promises or relying on the strength of a ruling party,” he added.

The activist said voters should demand leaders who can demonstrate integrity, competence, accountability and a verifiable record of service.

He subsequently endorsed Omo-Agege, describing the former senator as a figure capable of restoring what he called the “glory” of the Urhobo people.

“Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is the hope of Urhobo glory. With Omo-Agege, Urhobo will rise again,” Umukoro declared.

Omo-Agege’s 2027 ambition has already become a major feature of the political contest in Delta Central. He previously served in the 9th National Assembly and as Deputy President of the Senate before losing the APC senatorial ticket to incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone in the party’s 2026 primary. He subsequently left the APC and joined the NDC, where he declared his intention to contest the Delta Central seat.

Recent political developments have further intensified the contest, with Omo-Agege and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s political camp increasingly trading accusations and counter-accusations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Umukoro, however, framed his appeal primarily around the need for voters to make their choices based on performance rather than political sentiment.

He urged the electorate to recognise the power of the ballot and resist attempts to influence their decisions through money, intimidation or partisan loyalty.

“Your vote is your power. Use it wisely. Vote for good governance, not personal gain,” he said.

The activist’s endorsement adds another voice to the growing political mobilisation around the Delta Central contest, where competing political camps are seeking to convince voters that their candidates represent the best option for the district.

For Umukoro, the central question should not be which candidate belongs to the most powerful political party, but which candidate can demonstrate the capacity, experience and credibility required to represent the people.

The 2027 election is expected to provide voters in Delta Central with the opportunity to make that choice at the ballot box.
