PROF. SANDRA DURU ALLEGES BEHIND-THE-SCENES PRESSURE, PROMISES MONTHS-LONG AUDIOVISUAL EXPOSÉ
Prof. Sandra Chidinma Duru, popularly known online as “Prof. Mgbeke,” has reignited her public confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, announcing plans for what she described as a “months-long audiovisual presentation” addressing events surrounding the controversy involving Akpabio and other political actors.
In a strongly worded statement, Duru alleged that she had witnessed conduct that raised serious questions about political influence, institutional accountability and the protection of individuals within Nigeria’s political establishment.
Her latest intervention comes against the backdrop of the highly publicised 2025 controversy involving Akpabio, suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and allegations ranging from sexual harassment to claims of human organ harvesting and murder. Those allegations have been disputed, with the family of the late Iniubong Umoren, whose case was linked to some of the organ-harvesting claims, publicly rejecting the allegation.
Duru’s latest statement does not establish the truth of the allegations she references. Rather, she says she intends to present what she describes as documentary and audiovisual evidence to allow the public and relevant authorities to draw their own conclusions.
“CAN YOU IMAGINE CALLING A MENTALLY UNSTABLE WOMAN 30 TIMES?”
One of the most striking claims in Duru’s statement concerns an alleged telephone exchange.
She questioned how someone who supposedly regarded a person as “mentally unstable” could allegedly make approximately 30 calls to that individual within five minutes.
“Can you imagine you calling a mentally unstable woman 30 times within five minutes?” she asked.
Duru did not provide the call records publicly alongside the statement, meaning the claim could not independently be established from the material available for this report.
Her reference appears to form part of a broader argument that public descriptions of her character and private interactions involving her should be examined together rather than separately.
ALLEGED UK MEETING AND POLITICAL CONNECTIONS
Duru also referred to what she described as a UK meeting and interactions involving individuals connected to Nigeria’s political establishment.
She said the forthcoming presentation would include the accounts of people who allegedly called her “mentally unstable”, as well as details surrounding the UK meeting and communications involving people she said had previously denied knowing or speaking with her.
She further alleged that lawyers, political allies and other individuals were being deployed “behind the scenes”.
Those are serious allegations and remain claims by Duru unless independently corroborated by documentary evidence, witnesses or findings by competent authorities.
Duru said, however, that she intends to place the evidence before the public rather than rely solely on accusations.
“The evidence, not my anger, will determine what happened,” she said.
FROM ALLIANCE TO OPEN CONFRONTATION
Duru’s latest remarks represent another development in an increasingly complicated political and media dispute surrounding her relationship with figures within Nigeria’s political establishment.
Previous reporting has documented allegations and counter-allegations involving Duru, Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan. In 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan petitioned authorities over alleged defamation and alleged connections between Duru and Akpabio. Her petition specifically cited Duru’s publicly displayed call records and alleged contacts with Akpabio and other officials.
The dispute subsequently generated competing narratives over whether Duru was acting independently or as part of a political campaign.
Duru has rejected the suggestion that her interventions should be reduced to political factionalism.
In January 2026, reporting indicated that the Nigeria Police Force had assured Duru that petitions she submitted concerning alleged murder and human organ harvesting were being reviewed. At the time, she complained about delays in the investigative process.
“YOU CANNOT CONDEMN CONDUCT PUBLICLY WHILE ENABLING IT PRIVATELY”
In her latest statement, Duru directly challenged Akpabio’s public image and leadership record.
“Akpabio, after everything I witnessed, my conclusion is simple: you cannot condemn conduct publicly while enabling similar conduct privately,” she said.
She further argued that when political power becomes focused on protecting itself rather than ensuring due process, the consequences extend beyond individual political actors.
“When power protects itself instead of due process, nobody is safe,” she declared.
The statement signals that Duru does not intend to close the chapter on the controversy.
Instead, she appears to be preparing a sustained media campaign built around recordings, communications and other material she says will provide context to her allegations.
“THE EVIDENCE WILL DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENED”
Duru also issued a direct challenge to those she says have attempted to discredit her.
She referenced individuals who allegedly described her as mentally unstable and said their own words would feature in the forthcoming presentation.
She also mentioned Dr. Wale and Dr. Shadrach, telling them not to stay too far from Akpabio once her audiovisual presentation begins, a remark she framed around the need to monitor his wellbeing during what she predicts could be an intense public disclosure.
The language underscores the increasingly personal nature of the dispute.
However, the central issue remains whether the evidence Duru says she possesses can independently substantiate the claims she is making.
A DISPUTE THAT HAS REFUSED TO DISAPPEAR
The controversy involving Akpabio, Akpoti-Uduaghan and Duru has continued to generate competing narratives long after the original allegations emerged.
Duru has maintained a substantial online presence and describes herself as an investigative journalist, public policy expert and advocate. Her personal website identifies her as a professor, media scientist and strategic communications expert.
Meanwhile, legal and political complaints connected to the controversy have previously been reported by Nigerian newspapers, demonstrating that the dispute has extended beyond social-media exchanges into formal petitions and institutional processes.
Duru’s latest announcement therefore raises a fresh question: what exactly will her promised audiovisual presentation contain, and will the material withstand independent scrutiny?
For now, her allegations remain allegations.
If the promised recordings, call records, correspondence and other documents are eventually released, their authenticity, chronology and context will become critical in determining their evidentiary value.
Until then, the political battle continues — with Duru signalling that she believes the most consequential chapter is yet to come.
