ICPC CHAIRMAN UNVEILS REFORMS, DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION DURING SOKOTO VISIT

Dr. Musa Aliyu Promotes AI, Corruption Prevention and Institutional Reforms to Strengthen Anti-Graft Fight

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to institutional reforms, digital transformation and corruption prevention during a working visit to the ICPC Sokoto State Office.

The visit formed part of the Chairman’s official engagements in Sokoto State ahead of a scheduled programme at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Dr. Aliyu was received by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Mr. Shintema P. Binga, who welcomed him on behalf of the management and staff of the Commission.

Addressing officers, the ICPC Chairman commended their dedication and resilience despite operational challenges, assuring them that the Commission was implementing reforms to improve efficiency through better infrastructure, modern working tools and improved staff welfare.

He disclosed that the ICPC is pursuing full digital transformation in line with the Federal Government’s digitisation agenda, adding that the Commission would leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to strengthen investigations, improve transparency and enhance its visibility both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Aliyu also highlighted the growing recognition of the ICPC across Africa through collaborative anti-corruption initiatives, stressing that the fight against corruption requires the collective support of all Nigerians.

According to him, preventing corruption is more sustainable than relying solely on enforcement, calling for intensified public enlightenment and integrity education, particularly among children and young people.

The Chairman further announced an ongoing rebranding initiative aimed at repositioning the Commission and strengthening its capacity to deliver on its anti-corruption mandate.

During a live Hausa-language programme on Vision FM Sokoto, Dr. Aliyu explained the Commission’s Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI), which monitors the implementation of federally funded constituency and executive projects to ensure transparency and value for money.

He also disclosed that the Commission monitors donor-funded intervention programmes, including the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), to ensure projects are executed as approved and reach intended beneficiaries.

The ICPC Chairman highlighted the role of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) established across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as preventive mechanisms such as Systems Study and Review (SSR) and Corruption Risk Assessment (CRA), designed to identify systemic weaknesses, improve transparency in public procurement and recruitment, and reduce corruption risks.

He noted that the Commission has embraced digital platforms to improve public access to information, including publishing updates on court proceedings through its official social media channels.

Dr. Aliyu identified the difficulty in tracing proceeds of corruption as one of the major challenges confronting the Commission and emphasised the importance of Students Anti-Corruption Clubs (SACs) in secondary schools as part of efforts to build a culture of integrity among future generations.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to actively support the anti-corruption fight by reporting corrupt practices and providing credible information to the Commission.

The Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mr. Shintema P. Binga, thanked the Chairman for the visit and reaffirmed the Sokoto State Office’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s reform agenda and anti-corruption mandate.
