ASABA, NIGERIA — The Delta State Government has intensified efforts to achieve round-the-clock electricity supply across the state, with the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, leading a high-level technical assessment of major Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) facilities in Sapele, Warri, and Ughelli.
The strategic inspection exercise, conducted alongside energy consultant Engr. Wudil Tasiu, forms part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s directive to evaluate existing transmission infrastructure and identify opportunities for leveraging federal power assets to strengthen electricity delivery across Delta State.
Speaking during the assessment tour, Engr. Anoka said the exercise aligns with the administration’s vision of creating a reliable, sustainable, and efficient electricity market capable of delivering uninterrupted power to homes, businesses, and industries throughout the state.
According to the Commissioner, the recent enactment of the Delta State Electricity Law and ongoing efforts to establish the Delta State Electricity Commission have positioned the state to take greater control of its energy future while accelerating economic growth and industrial development.
He noted that integrating critical transmission infrastructure into the state’s emerging electricity framework would significantly improve power supply to major urban and rural communities.
At the Sapele Transmission Station, the delegation was received by the Principal Manager, Engr. Ewelikwu Samson Raphael, who reaffirmed the readiness of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to collaborate with the Delta State Government in advancing initiatives aimed at ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply.
The Commissioner and his team also inspected the strategically important Warri 132kV Transmission Station, which is expected to play a key role in strengthening electricity distribution to Effurun, Osubi, Ovwian/Orerokpe, Uvwie, Udu, and surrounding communities when fully integrated into the state’s electricity programme.
The assessment continued at the TCN Delta Sub-Region office in Ughelli, where officials conducted an inspection of the Afiesere Transmission Station. The facility tour was led by Assistant Manager, Engr. Chukwuemeka Ken, who provided technical briefings on the operational capacity and strategic importance of the infrastructure.
The state government said the ongoing engagement with TCN is part of broader efforts to build a modern electricity ecosystem capable of supporting industrial expansion, attracting investment, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life for residents.
Observers say the initiative represents one of the most significant steps towards energy sector reforms in Delta State, with expectations growing that successful implementation could substantially reduce power shortages and stimulate economic activities across the state.
