Tobore Oborevwori expands support for children with special needs, urges greater inclusion across Delta State
The Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reinforced her commitment to supporting children with special needs by extending free medical care to hundreds of families and donating ₦5 million to a young woman in need of urgent hip replacement surgery.
The intervention was carried out on Friday during the second free medical outreach organised by her You Matter Charity Foundation (YMCF) in Kiagbodo, Burutu Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oborevwori said the outreach was designed to go beyond healthcare by promoting autism awareness, encouraging social acceptance and restoring hope to families raising children with autism and other special needs.
She reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for an inclusive society where children with disabilities are respected, supported and given equal opportunities to realise their full potential.
According to her, Burutu Federal Constituency is the fifth beneficiary of the foundation’s humanitarian programme, which has so far provided free medical services, specialist consultations, medications and assistive support to more than 520 beneficiaries across Delta State.
Mrs. Oborevwori appealed to government agencies, healthcare professionals, development partners, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to strengthen collaboration in expanding access to healthcare and support services for children living with autism and other special needs.
She also encouraged parents and caregivers to seek early diagnosis, medical intervention and quality education for children with developmental conditions, stressing that early support can significantly improve their growth and quality of life.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, commended the You Matter Charity Foundation for complementing the Delta State Government’s healthcare initiatives through impactful humanitarian interventions.
Director-General of the foundation, Lawrentta Ogbedo, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustaining programmes that improve the lives of children with autism and other vulnerable groups across the state.
Also speaking, Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Julius Takeme, and the Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, praised Mrs. Oborevwori for her compassion and dedication to supporting vulnerable members of society, pledging continued support for the foundation’s activities.
The medical outreach featured health education, medical consultations, screening exercises, counselling, treatment and the free distribution of prescribed medications.
The highlight of the programme was the presentation of ₦5 million to support the urgent hip replacement surgery of a 20-year-old girl, while wheelchairs, educational assistive devices, food items and other essential relief materials were distributed to families caring for children with special needs.
Beneficiaries and caregivers expressed appreciation to the Delta State First Lady, describing the intervention as timely, life-changing and a source of renewed hope for families facing the challenges of caring for children with disabilities.
The outreach forms part of ongoing efforts by the You Matter Charity Foundation to improve access to healthcare, promote inclusion and enhance the welfare of vulnerable residents across Delta State.
