England Star Joins Blues On Long-Term Deal As Chelsea Make Huge Transfer Statement
Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal worth a reported £117 million, making him the most expensive British player in football history.
The 23-year-old attacker signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, after successfully completing his medical following his return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The transfer breaks the previous British transfer record and also becomes the biggest signing in Chelsea’s history, surpassing the club’s previous record fee paid for Enzo Fernandez.
Speaking after completing the move, Rogers said he was excited to join Chelsea, describing the club as the biggest in London and one he had admired since childhood. He also praised the club’s new project, the manager and the squad, saying he could not wait to begin the next chapter of his career.
Chelsea reportedly beat several clubs to secure his signature after Aston Villa agreed to the record-breaking offer. The move is seen as a major statement of intent from the Blues despite the club missing out on UEFA Champions League football next season.
Rogers leaves Aston Villa after making a huge impact, scoring important goals and helping the club win the UEFA Europa League title. Villa thanked the England international for his commitment and wished him success in the next stage of his career.
The arrival of Rogers is also expected to reshape Chelsea’s attack, with reports suggesting Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho could leave the club before the transfer window closes.
Morgan Rogers is expected to join up with his new teammates after taking a short break following England’s run to the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
