Judge orders two sureties, passport surrender as trial resumes July 6.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦200 million bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, who is standing trial over alleged cybercrime charges.
Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling delivered on Tuesday, ordered Sowore to provide two sureties as part of his bail conditions. The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the second must own landed property within Abuja.
The judge also directed that both sureties be verified by the prosecution before the bail conditions are deemed fulfilled.
In addition, Justice Umar ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal team.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until Monday, July 6, 2026, when the court is expected to commence hearing the defendant’s case.
Sowore is facing prosecution over alleged cybercrime offences, which he has consistently denied.
