Moves to restore access as residents commend swift intervention; says leadership must be measured by action, not promises.
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, has commenced immediate palliative repairs on the failed sections of the Sabongidda Ora–Ugbubezi–Atoruru–Ugbeturu–Sobe Road in Owan West Local Government Area, stating that leadership is about taking action when people need it most.
According to Agbebaku, work has already begun with the cutting, excavation and drilling of the damaged portions of the road to prepare them for comprehensive repairs. The intervention is aimed at restoring safer movement for motorists and residents while reducing the risk of accidents along the route.
The Speaker explained that although efforts are ongoing to secure permanent road infrastructure, leaders have a responsibility to respond to urgent challenges instead of allowing communities to continue suffering because of poor road conditions.
“I was not elected to become a big man. I was elected to serve,” Agbebaku said, emphasizing that his responsibility as the representative of Owan West is to provide practical leadership that addresses the immediate needs of the people.
He added that governance is a shared responsibility, noting that while the Edo State Government continues to implement development projects across the state, elected representatives should also contribute through interventions that directly benefit their constituents.
Agbebaku described the road repairs as part of his commitment to improving the welfare and safety of residents, adding that waiting until lives are lost before taking action is unacceptable.
He also appreciated the support and encouragement of the APC Apex Leader in Owan West, High Chief Lucky Ohimai (Tarex), former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ojo Asein, Barr. George Ohioma, members of his team, and several road users who visited the project site.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to building an Owan West where leadership is measured by action rather than promises, assuring residents that he would continue to pursue initiatives that improve their daily lives.
