Edo SDGs Office Pledges Support for Youth-Led Plastic Recovery Initiative

The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth participation and environmental sustainability, as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Hon. Sally Suleiman, pledged support for The Vine’s Sustainability Initiative’s Upstream Plastic Recovery 2026–2027 project.

Hon. Suleiman gave the assurance when the organisation’s President, Mr. Chukwuebuka Egbunike, and members of his team paid her a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin City.

During the visit, the team presented the objectives of the initiative and commended the state government for its efforts towards advancing sustainable development.

The Special Adviser welcomed the delegation, commending the young people for taking practical steps to address environmental challenges. She described youths as important drivers of development and stressed the need for their active participation in environmental protection, innovation and community development.

She also encouraged the team to remain creative, hardworking and confident, while acquiring practical skills, embracing self-reliance and contributing meaningfully to society.

Hon. Suleiman assured the organisation of the SDGs Office’s willingness to collaborate with relevant youth-led initiatives that support the state’s sustainable development objectives.

She noted that the plastic recovery project aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). She added that the initiative supports broader sustainable development priorities under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.

Earlier, Egbunike commended the state government’s SHINE Agenda, stating that its development priorities align with the organisation’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

He explained that the Upstream Plastic Recovery 2026–2027 project aims to contribute to a cleaner, greener and healthier environment through efforts consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The proposed collaboration highlights the role of youth-led organisations in promoting plastic recovery, environmental responsibility and sustainable communities across Edo State.
