Oyo governor says discussions focused on key national issues as Nigeria prepares for next polls
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday disclosed that he met with former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to discuss important national issues ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde, who shared details of the meeting on his official social media platforms, described the visit as an opportunity to seek the elder statesman’s guidance at what he called a crucial period in Nigeria’s history.
According to the governor, their discussions centred on issues affecting the country and the need for responsible leadership as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next general election.
“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election. We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” Makinde said.
Although the governor did not disclose specific details of the discussions, the meeting comes at a time when political consultations and realignments are beginning to intensify across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former President Obasanjo has remained one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures since leaving office in 2007 and is widely regarded as a respected national leader whose views often attract attention across the political spectrum.
The visit has already sparked political interest, with many observers closely watching consultations among key political leaders as parties and stakeholders begin preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Neither the Presidency nor other political actors have officially commented on the outcome of the meeting.
