Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz Joins Senate After Winning Election on Platform Supporting Adult Industry Workers’ Rights
Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia following her election earlier this year.
Ortiz secured a seat in the Colombian Senate after the March 2026 general election and will represent Norte de Santander under the Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 legislative term.
According to official election results, the Historic Pact emerged as the largest political bloc in the Senate, winning more than 4.4 million votes, representing approximately 22.7 percent of the total ballots cast, and securing 25 seats.
Before entering politics, Ortiz worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult entertainment industry, where she gained international recognition under the name Amaranta Hank.
Addressing criticism over her past career, the new senator said her previous profession should not define her ability to serve the public or contribute to national development.
She has also argued that people working in Colombia’s adult entertainment industry deserve legal recognition and protection, maintaining that they make legitimate contributions to the country’s economy.
Responding to critics in a social media video, Ortiz questioned why a woman who previously worked in the adult film industry should be prevented from seeking public office through democratic elections.
Beyond advocating for the rights of workers in the adult entertainment sector, the senator said her legislative priorities will include mental health, sexual abuse prevention, and social inclusion.
Her emergence as a member of Colombia’s Senate has attracted widespread attention both within the country and internationally, making her one of the most talked-about figures in Colombian politics.
Political observers say her election reflects the diversity of Colombia’s democratic system, where candidates from different professional backgrounds can contest public office through the electoral process.
