Traffic Disrupted as Authorities Yet to Explain Cause of Structural Failure
A section of the recently commissioned Lameco Bridge in Osogbo, Osun State, has reportedly failed, prompting authorities to close the bridge to motorists and commuters.
The development, which occurred on Friday, caused traffic disruption as road users were forced to seek alternative routes following the partial structural failure.
The bridge was commissioned on July 1, 2026, by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as part of his administration’s infrastructure development programme.
During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Adeleke described the bridge as one of several major projects aimed at improving transportation, reducing traffic congestion, promoting commerce and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the structural failure or announcing when repair works will commence and the bridge will be reopened to the public.
Engineers and relevant government agencies are expected to assess the damaged section to determine the cause of the incident and recommend appropriate remedial measures.
No casualties or injuries had been reported as of press time.
The incident has generated public concern, with residents calling for a thorough technical investigation to ensure the safety and durability of public infrastructure projects in the state.
