Tinubu Barracks Phase II Records Progress as Army Chief Inspects Construction

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Construction work on Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II has recorded appreciable progress, following an unscheduled inspection of the project by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

The inspection took place on Friday, October 16, 2026, as the Army Chief assessed the pace of construction, quality of work and compliance with approved specifications.

According to the Nigerian Army, the visit forms part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development and address accommodation challenges facing personnel and their families.

During the inspection, Shaibu examined residential accommodation blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other essential facilities being developed to provide a conducive living environment for Army personnel.

He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on the level of work completed, implementation challenges and anticipated completion timelines.

The Army Chief expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded and directed the contractors to sustain the pace of construction while maintaining high standards and ensuring timely delivery.

He emphasised that the project must meet the required specifications and provide lasting value without compromising quality.

The Nigerian Army said the barracks, named in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, represents part of its efforts to bridge accommodation gaps, improve living conditions and strengthen personnel morale.

Shaibu reiterated that troop welfare remains a central component of his leadership approach under the Army’s “Soldier First” philosophy.

He said the provision of modern residential accommodation and supporting infrastructure was essential to building a motivated, professional and resilient force capable of carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

The Army Chief also reaffirmed his commitment to monitoring infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks through regular and unscheduled inspections.

He said the inspections would help promote quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money in the execution of military infrastructure projects.

The update was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, October 17, 2026, by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations.
