OBI HAS FOUND A POLITICAL SOUL MATE IN KWANKWASO — GWARZO

NDC CHIEFTAIN SAYS OBI, KWANKWASO ARE ‘TWO GIANTS’ WORKING FOR NIGERIANS AS OPPOSITION REALIGNMENT GATHERS MOMENTUM

KANO, NIGERIA |

The Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aminu Gwarzo, has described former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as two major political figures whose growing relationship could provide Nigerians with a stronger alternative to the present political establishment.

Gwarzo made the remarks while speaking with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Kano, where he discussed emerging political realignments and the possibility of greater cooperation among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC candidate praised the relationship between Obi and Kwankwaso, describing both politicians as influential leaders who, in his assessment, share a political philosophy centred on principles, public service and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

“Obi has found a political soul mate in Kwankwaso,” Gwarzo said.

He further described the two politicians as “the two giants who stand on principles and ideology of working for the people.”

Gwarzo’s comments come amid growing political discussions over possible alliances among opposition parties and prominent political figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, while Kwankwaso contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Their respective political influence, particularly in the South-East and North-West, has made any potential cooperation between them a subject of considerable political interest.

Gwarzo suggested that a stronger relationship between the two opposition figures could contribute to the emergence of a formidable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He also criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing concerns over insecurity and the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians.

According to Gwarzo, political leadership should ultimately be measured by its ability to improve the lives of citizens, strengthen security and create an environment where Nigerians can pursue economic opportunities.

He argued that Nigerians deserve political choices based on clear principles and policies rather than personality-driven politics.

The comments come at a time when opposition politicians are increasingly discussing possible coalitions, alliances and strategic realignments ahead of 2027.

However, whether the relationship between Obi and Kwankwaso will eventually develop into a formal political alliance remains uncertain.

For now, political actors across the country continue to watch developments closely as opposition parties explore possible strategies for challenging the APC in the next presidential election.

Gwarzo’s remarks have further fuelled the conversation over whether Obi and Kwankwaso could become central figures in any major opposition realignment ahead of 2027.
