Director-General Says Organisations That Neglect Corps Members’ Welfare Will No Longer Receive NYSC Deployments
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to blacklist employers that fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to serve with them, as part of efforts to strengthen the welfare and safety of participants in the national service scheme.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during an interaction with corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to him, organisations that fail to fulfil their welfare obligations will no longer be considered for the deployment of corps members.
“Any employer who does not provide accommodation and transportation for corps members will be blacklisted from enjoying corps services,” Nafiu said.
He stressed that corps members deserve a conducive working environment and adequate welfare support throughout their service year, adding that the NYSC would not tolerate situations where employers neglect their responsibilities.
The Director-General urged employers across the country to comply with the NYSC Act and operational guidelines by providing decent accommodation, transportation where necessary, and a safe environment that enables corps members to discharge their duties effectively.
Nafiu also encouraged corps members to remain disciplined, dedicated and committed to national service, while assuring them that the NYSC management would continue to prioritise their security and welfare.
The NYSC said the planned enforcement is part of broader efforts to improve the quality of service conditions for corps members and ensure that only organisations willing to meet the scheme’s welfare requirements are allowed to benefit from their deployment.
