Security Operatives Seize Suspected Minerals, CCTV Cameras and Mining Equipment in Kokona Raid
The Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, has led a high-powered security operation against illegal mining activities in Amba Community, Kokona Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of several foreign nationals and local miners.
The operation, carried out on Friday, targeted an illegal mining site where security personnel apprehended suspects allegedly involved in unauthorised mining operations.
During the raid, operatives recovered suspected mineral resources stored in cartons, alongside various operational equipment believed to have been used in carrying out the illegal mining activities.
Among the items seized were CCTV cameras and other surveillance and operational devices reportedly installed at the site to monitor and facilitate the illegal mining operation.
The enforcement exercise forms part of the Nasarawa State Government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, protect the state’s rich mineral resources and ensure that all mining activities comply with existing laws and regulatory standards.
State authorities said the arrested suspects would undergo further investigation by relevant security and regulatory agencies before being prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations against illegal miners and warned that individuals and organisations operating outside the legal framework would face the full weight of the law.
