ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says normalcy has been restored in Dabiri and Paiko villages in Gwagwalada Area Council following reported unrest between farmers and herders.
The Command said security measures had been strengthened in the affected communities to prevent further violence, protect residents and maintain public order.
As part of efforts to ease tensions, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, met with representatives of farmers and herders at the Police Headquarters on October 19, 2026.
During the meeting, Sanusi urged both groups to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, stressing the importance of resolving disputes without resorting to violence.
The police commissioner warned against incitement, retaliation and any actions capable of threatening public safety or escalating tensions between the communities.
He also called on both parties to cooperate with security agencies in identifying and handing over individuals responsible for the reported attacks, emphasising that the actions of a few people should not expose entire communities to danger.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and preventing further escalation of the situation.
Residents of Dabiri, Paiko and neighbouring communities were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel and resume their lawful activities without fear.
The police also advised residents to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station to support ongoing security efforts.
The development underscores the importance of dialogue, community cooperation and effective security intervention in preventing disputes between farming and herding communities from escalating into violence.
