Former lawmaker insists he won party primary, seeks judicial review of outcome.
Former Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Senator Ayo Arise, has instituted legal proceedings against the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary election for the district.Arise confirmed the development in an interview in Ado-Ekiti, maintaining that he was the rightful winner of the primary election and is asking the court to nullify the outcome announced by the party.
According to the former lawmaker, the suit was filed immediately after the primary election in compliance with the timelines stipulated under the Electoral Act.He said his decision to seek judicial intervention was taken within the legal window provided for resolving electoral disputes, adding that the matter is now before the court.
Arise also stated that he was not surprised that his name was omitted from the APC’s list of candidates, noting that the dispute over the primary election is already the subject of ongoing litigation.
He maintained that the court would determine the legitimacy of the APC’s senatorial primary for Ekiti North Senatorial District and decide who is entitled to emerge as the party’s candidate.
As of the time of filing this report, the All Progressives Congress had not publicly responded to the lawsuit, while details of the court proceedings were still being awaited. The case is expected to test the validity of the party’s primary election process in Ekiti North ahead of the forthcoming elections.Story by IBN News.
