Environment Ministry says there will be no restriction of movement as residents are urged to clean their surroundings
BENIN CITY — The Edo State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold across the state on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The announcement was contained in a special notice issued by the Edo State Ministry of Environment & Sustainability and signed by the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Nosa Adams (Esq.), on September 25, 2026.
The ministry urged residents across the state to actively participate in the three-hour sanitation exercise by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage channels and ensuring proper disposal of waste in accordance with relevant sanitation laws and regulations.
The government also made it clear that there will be no restriction of movement during the exercise.
Residents have therefore been encouraged to use the sanitation period to clean their homes, business premises and immediate surroundings, while paying particular attention to drainage channels and areas where waste may have accumulated.
The ministry said residents’ participation is essential to maintaining a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for all.
It also appealed for the full cooperation of residents across Edo State, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
The monthly exercise provides residents and communities with an opportunity to remove accumulated waste, clear drainage channels and address other environmental concerns within their surroundings.
The Edo State Ministry of Environment & Sustainability is located on the 3rd Floor, Block B, Secretariat Building, Sapele Road, Benin City.
