He Criticised Oshiomhole, and defended Peter Obi Ahead of 2027
Popular Edo-born activist, Comrade Idris Zekeri, has criticised Senator Adams Aliu Oshiomhole over his recent remarks about Peter Gregory Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, while questioning the senator’s representation of Edo North.
Zekeri recalled that during Oshiomhole’s 2012 re-election campaign as Governor of Edo State, he invited the then Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, to commission the reconstructed Akpakpava Road in Benin City.
According to the activist, Oshiomhole described Obi as the best-performing governor in Nigeria at the time.
“Let him deny it. I have evidence to support my claim, and if necessary, I will present it,” Zekeri said.
The activist argued that Obi’s record in business and governance demonstrates his capacity for leadership and accused Oshiomhole of unfairly criticising the former Anambra governor.
Zekeri also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of infrastructure in Edo North, particularly the Benin–Auchi Expressway, which he described as being in poor condition beyond the Iruekpen–Uromi section. He further questioned the progress of the proposed Federal University of Sports in Afuze and called for greater federal investment in the district.
He urged Oshiomhole to use his position and relationship with the Federal Government to attract more development projects to Edo North, rather than engaging in political exchanges.
The activist also referenced previous political debates surrounding Peter Obi’s visits to Edo State, maintaining that Obi has continued to visit the state despite criticism from some political figures.
Zekeri concluded by saying that young Nigerians are demanding greater accountability, improved infrastructure and responsible leadership, adding that the next generation expects leaders to focus on governance and national development.
IBN News notes that Senator Adams Oshiomhole had not responded to Zekeri’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.
