Singer calls for close monitoring of results as Osun governorship election enters critical stage
Afrobeats star Davido has urged voters and party supporters participating in the Osun State governorship election to closely monitor the handling and transmission of results from their respective polling units.
In a post shared on his X account on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Davido advised voters to ensure that polling-unit results are uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in their presence.
“Make sure your polling unit results are uploaded on iRev in your presence and make sure the figures are entered on eECD8A (electronic EC8A). We will follow our votes bumper to bumper!” he wrote.
The statement comes as voters across Osun State cast their ballots in the governorship election, with political parties and observers closely monitoring the voting, counting and result-transmission processes.
INEC had assured voters ahead of the election that polling-unit results would be uploaded to IReV as they were completed, while noting that network connectivity and the volume of data could affect how quickly results appeared on the platform.
The Commission’s established procedure provides for the result to be completed at the polling unit, with the result sheet uploaded electronically to IReV while the physical result proceeds through the prescribed collation process. INEC has also described IReV as a transparency mechanism that allows the public to view polling-unit results.
Davido’s call therefore focuses on ensuring that figures recorded at the polling unit correspond with the result sheet uploaded electronically.
The appeal comes amid heightened attention on the credibility and transparency of the Osun election, following earlier concerns raised by political actors and observers over the conduct of the exercise.
The singer has been vocal on issues surrounding the Osun election and has repeatedly called for transparency in the electoral process.
As voting and counting continue, election stakeholders are expected to follow the prescribed procedures, while voters and party agents monitor the process and report any irregularities through lawful channels.
INEC’s use of IReV is intended to make polling-unit results accessible to the public and strengthen transparency in the management of election results.
