Federal High Court in Warri Fixes New Date as Supporters Raise Concerns Over Continued Detention
The Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, has adjourned the case involving Prof. Arthur Ekpekpo and other detained Okuama community leaders until October 5, 2026, for the continuation of the substantive hearing.
The court session was attended by several supporters of the detainees, including the National President of St. Vincent’s College Okwagbe Old Students’ Association, Prof. G.G. Darah, President of Ukoko R’Emotor, Prof. Basil Iwhiwhu, and the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Delta State University Branch, Comrade Matthew Eyuren.
According to those supporting the detainees, the adjournment followed the Nigerian Army’s alleged failure to comply with a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court’s judgment, which they said directed the unconditional release of the Okuama leaders.
The supporters expressed concern over the continued detention of Prof. Arthur Ekpekpo and the other Okuama leaders, saying the delay has heightened anxiety about their welfare and safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army had not publicly responded to the allegations regarding compliance with the court’s judgment.
