BREAKING: NSCDC UNCOVERS ALLEGED ARMS DIVERSION BY SERVING OFFICERS, RECOVERS AK-47 SOLD FOR ₦700,000

Shock in NSCDC as serving officer allegedly steals AK-47, while two G3 rifles are allegedly diverted from Adamawa armoury

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered alleged cases of arms diversion involving serving and former personnel, with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle allegedly stolen by a serving officer and the discovery of two unserviceable G3 rifles allegedly removed from an armoury in Adamawa State.

The development, which occurred on September 3, 2026, has raised serious concerns over the alleged diversion of firearms from security formations.

According to information released by the Corps, the recovered AK-47 was allegedly stolen by CAII Igah Ameh James, a serving NSCDC officer attached to the Commandant General’s Crack Squad.

The officer is alleged to have unlawfully taken the firearm and subsequently sold it for ₦700,000.

The NSCDC also uncovered a separate case involving two unserviceable G3 rifles allegedly removed from the Adamawa State Command armoury.

The rifles were allegedly taken by ASCI Peter Ardo, a former Head of Armoury, and subsequently allegedly sold to CCA Boniface B. Lawyer.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged diversion, including how the firearms were removed from official custody and the transactions involving the suspects, are expected to form part of the investigation.

The Corps said the operations were not limited to arms-related cases, as security personnel also rescued 15 trafficked children during related operations.

In another major breakthrough, the NSCDC said it dismantled an inter-state telecommunications vandalism network operating across several states.

The development highlights the broad range of criminal activities currently being targeted by the Corps, including arms diversion, human trafficking and infrastructure vandalism.

The allegations against the personnel involved remain subject to investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent until established otherwise by a competent court.

The NSCDC is expected to provide further details on the identities of those arrested, the locations where the operations were conducted and the next steps in the investigation.

The Corps said more information would be communicated as investigations progress.
