Uzodimma says APC governors will not support any arrangement capable of weakening Tinubu’s re-election bid, as Wike accuses Imo, Kwara governors of political hostility
ABUJA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum has unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any “rainbow coalition” or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or weakening the ruling party.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, disclosed the position after the forum’s meeting in Abuja, saying the governors would not entertain any political arrangement capable of creating confusion, divided loyalty or competing interests within the APC.
“The APC governors forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any rainbow coalition alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the reelection of Mr. President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.
He added that no arrangement capable of creating divided loyalty or competing interests within the ruling party would be entertained.
The declaration comes against the backdrop of growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, including efforts by opposition figures and political actors to build broader alliances against the APC.
It also comes amid a growing political disagreement between Uzodimma and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike recently accused Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of working against him despite what he described as political support he had extended to both governors in the past.
The FCT minister’s allegations have added another layer to the emerging political battle over alliances and loyalty ahead of 2027, particularly as Wike remains an influential political figure despite his continued membership of the President Tinubu-led Federal Executive Council.
The disagreement between Wike and Uzodimma has been developing against the wider debate over President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election and political strategies in the South-East and South-South regions. Earlier reports had highlighted tensions between the two politicians over political influence and strategies for the President’s re-election campaign.
Wike has also accused AbdulRazaq of political hostility, alleging that the Kwara governor failed to reciprocate the support he claimed to have provided to him politically. The accusations have further exposed the competing interests among politicians who were previously connected through broader political networks.
Meanwhile, political tensions within the Kwara APC have also continued, with factions of the party publicly criticising AbdulRazaq’s management of the party structure ahead of the next election cycle.
Uzodimma’s latest declaration, however, places the APC governors firmly behind the party’s existing political structure and President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The position also sends a direct political message to members of the APC who may be considering participation in opposition-backed coalitions or alliances outside the party’s established structure.
For the APC governors, the priority is maintaining party unity and ensuring that candidates contesting under the party’s platform receive the support of the party’s leadership and elected officials.
The development is likely to intensify the political debate over the proposed “rainbow coalition”, particularly as opposition politicians continue discussions about forming a stronger platform capable of challenging the APC in 2027.
Wike’s position adds another dimension to the contest. While he remains a minister in the Tinubu administration, his public disagreements with some APC governors have continued to attract political attention.
The current dispute involving Wike, Uzodimma and AbdulRazaq also illustrates the increasingly complicated alliances developing ahead of 2027, where political relationships are being tested by competing interests, presidential ambitions and the struggle for control of party structures.
For now, the APC Governors Forum has made its position clear: its members will not support any coalition or political arrangement that, in their assessment, threatens the APC, President Tinubu’s re-election or the electoral prospects of the party’s candidates.
IBN News reports that with political activities ahead of 2027 gathering momentum, the battle over alliances, loyalty and party control is expected to intensify in the months ahead.
