Gunmen have abducted the 60-year-old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, Budo Aare, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, and demanded a ₦30 million ransom for his release.

According to family members, the incident occurred on Saturday evening while Owoade, popularly known as Onaiye, was returning from his farm.

His son, Abiola Owoade, said the kidnappers contacted the family using the victim’s mobile phone shortly after the abduction and demanded ₦30 million for his freedom.

He added that a search team later recovered the victim’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush on Sunday morning.

The family has appealed to the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, hunters, vigilantes and other security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his safe release.

The abduction comes just days after security agencies rescued more than 40 pupils and teachers who had spent 56 days in captivity following their abduction from schools in Oyo State.

Confirming the latest incident, the Oyo State Police Command said the victim was kidnapped at his farm in Budo Aare.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said efforts are underway to rescue the victim unharmed and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
