Ex-Access Bank Staff Pleads Not Guilty, Remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Centre

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a former employee of Access Bank Plc, Chinonso Akujobi, before the Ikeja High Court over the alleged theft of ₦294,595,992.

Akujobi was arraigned before Justice I.O. Ijelu on a five-count charge bordering on stealing.

According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly diverted funds belonging to the bank between January and December 2025 by making unauthorised transfers from the bank’s general ledger into her personal Access Bank account. Prosecutors alleged that one of the transactions involved ₦109,325,566.86.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following her plea, prosecution counsel S.M. Yabo requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant pending the determination of her bail application.

Justice Ijelu subsequently adjourned the matter until October 8, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and the commencement of trial. The court also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
