The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, on Thursday paid a historic visit to the Museu Afro Brasil in São Paulo, one of the world’s most significant institutions dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history, culture and contributions of people of African descent.
The museum is widely regarded as the largest museum of the African Diaspora in Latin America, housing an extensive collection of artworks, historical artefacts and cultural exhibitions that highlight the enduring legacy of African heritage across Brazil and the wider Americas.
The royal visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural and historical ties between the Yoruba people and Brazil, a country with deep-rooted African influences dating back centuries.
Oba Owoade’s visit is expected to further promote cultural exchange, heritage preservation and collaboration between traditional institutions in Nigeria and organisations dedicated to celebrating African history and identity across the globe.
