SOUTH AFRICA BRACES FOR JUNE 30 ANTI-IMMIGRATION PROTESTS AS ACTIVISTS VOW TO DEFY THREATS

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — Tensions continue to rise across South Africa ahead of planned anti-immigration demonstrations scheduled for June 30, as some protest groups and activists insist they will proceed with their actions despite warnings from government authorities and security agencies.

According to reports circulating on social media and statements attributed to some anti-immigration campaigners, participants have vowed not to be intimidated or deterred from their planned demonstrations, maintaining that they intend to continue their protests until their demands regarding undocumented foreign nationals are addressed.

The development comes amid heightened political and social debate over immigration, unemployment, crime, and economic pressures in South Africa, issues that have increasingly fueled public discourse in recent months.

South African authorities have repeatedly urged citizens to remain peaceful and operate within the confines of the law, warning that any acts of violence, intimidation, looting, or attacks targeting individuals or businesses will attract legal consequences.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has also emphasized that immigration enforcement remains the responsibility of state institutions and has called for calm while discouraging any actions that could trigger unrest or threaten public safety.

Human rights organizations and civil society groups have expressed concern over the possibility of xenophobic violence, urging all parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and prioritize peaceful engagement.

Security agencies have intensified monitoring efforts ahead of the planned demonstrations, with authorities pledging to maintain law and order across affected communities.

As June 30 approaches, uncertainty remains over the scale of the protests and their potential impact, while communities, businesses, migrants, and residents continue to watch developments closely.
