Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, wife of Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, in Osogbo as the state prepares to benefit from a food distribution initiative championed by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Hajiya Nana Shettima visited Osogbo to represent the First Lady at the flag-off of the food distribution programme, which is designed to provide assistance to vulnerable Nigerians facing economic hardship and food insecurity.

The initiative operates under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a social intervention programme established by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to support disadvantaged households through humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment and welfare programmes.
The visit comes as food affordability and the rising cost of living continue to put pressure on families across Nigeria, particularly widows, persons with disabilities, low-income households and other vulnerable groups who struggle to meet their daily nutritional needs.

The Renewed Hope Initiative’s Food Outreach Scheme was launched in March 2024 to provide food assistance to vulnerable citizens across the country. The programme has progressively extended its reach to states in different geopolitical zones, with food supplies handed over to state representatives for distribution to intended beneficiaries.
On October 16, 2026, the First Lady announced that Katsina had become the 30th state to benefit from the food outreach scheme, following distributions in 29 states and the Federal Capital Territory. She also identified Osun, Ogun and Akwa Ibom as the next states expected to benefit from the programme.

The initiative is supported by donations from two partners, including the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, with commitments to supply two truckloads of food items monthly. According to the First Lady, this support enables the initiative to extend assistance to additional states.
Beyond the immediate distribution of food supplies, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has also called on state governors to establish functional community food banks in their three senatorial districts to strengthen food security and tackle malnutrition.

The proposed food banks are expected to improve access to essential food supplies, particularly for young children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and other people at risk of nutritional deficiencies.
Governor Adeleke’s reception of the Vice President’s wife in Osogbo highlights the involvement of Osun State in the humanitarian initiative and the importance of cooperation between federal and state-level stakeholders in addressing food insecurity.

However, details concerning the quantity of food items distributed in Osun, the total number of beneficiaries and the specific communities covered were not confirmed in the reports available at the time of publication.
The initiative is expected to provide relief to qualifying households as the Renewed Hope Initiative continues its nationwide food outreach efforts.

IBN News will continue to follow developments surrounding the programme and its impact on vulnerable residents of Osun State.
