‘I’m a Naira Billionaire and Will Soon Become a US Dollar Billionaire’ — Mr Eazi

LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has declared that he is already a billionaire in Nigerian naira and expressed confidence that he could soon attain billionaire status in United States dollars.

The singer, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, made the remarks during an interview with British radio station Capital XTRA, where he was asked whether he was on track to become Afrobeats’ first billionaire.

Responding with humour, Mr Eazi indicated that his billionaire status depended on the currency being discussed. He said he had attained the milestone in Nigerian naira and other African currencies but had yet to reach the same level in US dollars.

“US dollars, you know, soon come. I’m not really looking for that, that’s not the target. But I see it; it’s coming. Anytime now,” he said.

Despite his confidence, the singer stressed that becoming a dollar billionaire was not his primary objective, identifying personal and creative freedom as more important priorities.

He explained that he particularly valued the ability to make music and release songs on his own terms without unnecessary restrictions.

Mr Eazi has built business interests beyond his music career, with investments spanning entertainment, technology and other sectors.

He founded emPawa Africa, a platform that supports emerging African musicians through artist development, funding and distribution services. He has also pursued investments through Zagadat Capital and developed interests in entertainment and gaming through businesses associated with the Choplife brand.

His growing business profile has fuelled discussions about the potential for African musicians to build substantial wealth through investments and entrepreneurship beyond music sales, streaming royalties and live performances.

However, Mr Eazi’s remarks do not independently establish his current net worth. No verified financial assessment has confirmed that he is approaching a personal fortune of US$1 billion.

A billionaire in Nigerian naira has a substantially different financial standing from a billionaire in US dollars because of the difference in the currencies’ values. Reaching the latter milestone would require a net worth of at least US$1 billion after accounting for assets, ownership stakes and liabilities.

For now, Mr Eazi’s comments highlight his ambition to expand his business interests while maintaining control over his musical career.

Whether he achieves the dollar-billionaire milestone remains to be seen, but the singer has made clear that he intends to continue building beyond the entertainment industry.
