UMUAHIA, Abia State — Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Samson Ogah, has been named Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Ottimania Legacy Group, a political movement mobilising support for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, in the 2027 governorship election.
Ogah’s appointment places him at the head of the movement’s Board of Trustees as it expands its organisational structure across Abia State, including the three senatorial districts and the state’s 17 local government areas.
The development was reported by The Guardian on Saturday, October 17, 2026, following an announcement by the movement’s Director of Publicity and Spokesperson, Bright Ejike.
Ogah has also been named chairman of the group’s Advisory Board, which comprises individuals drawn from different professional and public service backgrounds.
The movement appointed former world wrestling champion Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor, popularly known as De Ultimate Commander, as its president, while former Finance Minister, Professor Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was listed as its grand patron.
Movement Expands Political Mobilisation Structure
The appointment comes as the Ottimania Legacy Group strengthens its leadership and grassroots mobilisation structure ahead of the 2027 Abia governorship election.
According to the announcement, the movement has established leadership positions at the state, senatorial district and local government levels, with designated officials responsible for mobilisation, strategy, welfare, youth affairs, women’s affairs and other organisational functions.
High Chief Uzor Ekworomadu was named Director-General of the movement, with Maazi Obinna Agommuo appointed Deputy Director-General and Dr. Uduma Nnate as Executive Secretary.
The movement’s legal directorate includes Kenneth Ahia as Director of Legal, alongside Kelechi Nwaiwu and Chimezie Kingsley Okorie as co-directors.
Bright Ejike, popularly known as I Go Yan, serves as Director of Publicity and Spokesperson, while Comrade Amos Oge Kalu was named Assistant Director of Publicity.
The structure also includes zonal coordinators for Abia North, Abia Central and Abia South, as well as coordinators across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The arrangement is designed to provide an organisational framework for the movement’s political activities and support mobilisation across the state.
Ogah’s Political Position and Support for Otti
Ogah’s appointment has attracted attention because of his political background in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his public support for Otti, who was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party.
Ogah served as Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development under former President Muhammadu Buhari and was an APC governorship candidate in Abia State in 2019.
In March 2026, the Abia State chapter of the APC announced disciplinary action against Ogah following his public declaration of support for Otti’s re-election bid. The party argued that his position conflicted with its political objectives in the state.
Ogah, however, maintained that his support for Otti was based on his assessment of the governor’s administration and did not mean he had abandoned his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former minister had publicly expressed support for Otti’s second-term ambition while also affirming his backing for Tinubu’s re-election.
His emergence as BoT chairman of the Ottimania Legacy Group therefore formalises his leadership role within a political movement dedicated to mobilising support for Otti ahead of the next governorship election.
Otti’s 2027 Campaign Takes Shape
The development comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections in Abia State.
On October 5, 2026, Otti inaugurated the Labour Party’s governorship campaign council, with himself as chairman and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu as vice-chairman.
Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Agwu U. Agwu, was appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while other officials were assigned responsibilities covering finance, strategy, legal affairs, publicity, security and grassroots coordination.
The council’s structure extends across the state’s three senatorial districts and constituencies.
The governor also urged members of the campaign council to work with the party’s structures and stakeholders at the grassroots, emphasising coordinated political engagement ahead of the election.
The Ottimania Legacy Group operates as a separate support movement seeking to mobilise backing for Otti’s return to office, while the Labour Party’s campaign council provides the party’s formal campaign structure.
Leadership Appointments and the Road Ahead
The appointment of Ogah and the unveiling of the movement’s wider leadership structure mark another development in the political alignments taking shape in Abia ahead of 2027.
With leadership positions established across the senatorial districts and local government areas, the group is positioning itself to coordinate political engagement at both state and grassroots levels.
The extent of its influence will depend on its organisational activities, mobilisation efforts and ability to engage voters across the state as the election approaches.
For now, Ogah’s appointment adds a former federal minister and former APC governorship candidate to the leadership of a movement working for the re-election of the incumbent Labour Party governor.
The 2027 Abia governorship contest is expected to draw further political activity as parties, support groups and aspirants consolidate their structures ahead of the electoral process.
