Three to Be Charged Over Alleged Assault, Obstruction of Police Officers in Ogun

AGO-IWOYE, OGUN STATE — Three suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Friday, October 2, 2026, following an investigation into the alleged obstruction and assault of police officers performing their lawful duties in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The suspects were identified by the Ogun State Police Command as Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the investigation was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, following an incident on September 29, 2026.

The Command said a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.

Police alleged that while officers were conveying the vehicle to the station, a Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV blocked its movement at Abobi Street.

A physical confrontation allegedly followed, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted.

The police said video recordings of the incident subsequently circulated on social media and were among the materials reviewed during the investigation.

Following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, detectives reportedly visited the scene, investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrested the three suspects.

The suspects are expected to face five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault on police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, according to the Command.

The police said the Commissioner of Police had reiterated that the safety and protection of officers performing lawful duties remained a priority of the Ogun State Command.

The Command also urged members of the public to channel complaints against police personnel through lawful mechanisms rather than engaging officers in physical confrontation.

The police said further updates would be provided as the case progresses.

IBN News reports that the allegations against the three suspects have not been established by a court. They are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty according to law.
