Council directs return of vehicles and official number plates by October 14, threatens sanctions
IRRUA, EDO STATE — The Esan Central Local Government Council has issued a final warning to former political office holders and other persons allegedly holding onto Council vehicles and official number plates after leaving office.
The directive was contained in a Government Special Announcement dated September 30, 2026, with reference number ECLG.2168/T2/6, signed by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Oseigba, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Abdullahi Momodu.
The Council said it had observed that some former political office holders and indigenes were still in possession of its vehicles and were allegedly using official Council number plates without authorisation.
It directed all persons affected to return the vehicles and official number plates to the Esan Central Local Government Secretariat, P.M.B. 04, Irrua, on or before Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The Council warned that failure to comply with the directive by the deadline would result in sanctions in accordance with applicable local government bye-laws.
It further stated that it would resort to legal measures to recover its properties from anyone who fails to comply.
The Council maintained that government vehicles and other public assets belong to the people and should be properly accounted for and used for public purposes.
The administration said the recovery exercise was part of its effort to retrieve Council property and ensure that public assets are available for the service of residents.
The announcement was signed by Hon. Theophilus Oseigba, Secretary to the Local Government, for the Executive Chairman, Esan Central Local Government Area.
