3.5km Dual Carriageway Delivered as Osun Government Targets Improved Infrastructure, Economic Growth
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commissioned the 3.5-kilometre first phase of the Ila-Orangun Township Road Dualisation Project, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and accelerating grassroots development across the state.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday in Ila-Orangun, marked the completion of the first phase of the planned 10-kilometre dual carriageway, which is being executed in three phases.
Speaking during the event, Governor Adeleke described the project as more than just a road, saying it would improve commerce, transportation, public safety and access to essential services.
According to the governor, the road will enhance the movement of agricultural produce, attract new investments and provide easier access to schools, healthcare facilities and the palace.
He noted that the project forms part of his administration’s broader infrastructure agenda aimed at ensuring development reaches communities across Osun State.
Adeleke also disclosed that, in addition to the newly commissioned dual carriageway, his administration has completed more than seven kilometres of intra-city roads in Ila-Orangun.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tokunbo Salam, praised the governor for fulfilling his promise to complete the first phase within the 12-month deadline given to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

He described the administration’s infrastructure drive as a major milestone in the state’s development, expressing confidence that subsequent phases of the project would further transform the area.
Also speaking, the Director of Research and Planning in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Olalekan Salami, explained that the 10-kilometre road project was divided into three phases, with the first and second phases covering 3.5 kilometres each, while the final phase will cover three kilometres.
He stated that the completed first phase was delivered exactly one year after the project was flagged off in July 2025.
According to him, the completed dual carriageway is expected to eventually extend to the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, with the second phase scheduled for completion within the next 12 months.
The event was attended by the Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdulwahab Olukayode Oyedotun (Bibire I), members of the Osun State Executive Council, political leaders, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
The commissioning represents another milestone in the Osun State Government’s ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development programme.
