officials ordered to hand over government property as probe begins

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has suspended the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponmwosa, over alleged misconduct.

Also suspended is the Edo State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (LPRES) Project, Mrs. Ikpikhumi Betsy Aghaku.

The suspensions were announced in a special statement issued on Monday night by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor.

According to the statement, both officials have been directed to immediately hand over all official documents, records and other government property relating to the LPRES Project to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock Development.

The state government also directed the suspended officials to report to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for what it described as a comprehensive debriefing on the implementation of the LPRES Project.

While confirming the suspensions, the Edo State Government did not disclose the specific allegations or circumstances that led to the decision.

The development has sparked public interest as the affected officials played key roles in implementing the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (LPRES) Project in Edo State.

The LPRES Project is a joint initiative of the Federal Government and participating state governments aimed at improving livestock production, strengthening resilience in the livestock sector and enhancing the livelihoods of livestock farmers across Nigeria.

The Edo State Government has yet to announce whether further investigations or disciplinary actions will follow the suspensions.
