EDO POLICE ANTI-KIDNAPPING UNIT GETS NEW O/C AS SP CLETUS AKAAKA TAKES CHARGE

Command Bolsters War On Kidnapping With Appointment Of Experienced Operations Officer

The Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Command, has appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Cletus Akaaka as the new Officer Commanding (O/C) of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening the Command’s ongoing offensive against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.

SP Akaaka, a highly experienced technical intelligence officer, is widely regarded by colleagues as an operational strategist with extensive experience in intelligence gathering, surveillance, criminal investigation and coordinated tactical operations. He is expected to bring renewed momentum to the Command’s relentless campaign against criminal elements.

Akaaka, who enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), steadily rose through the ranks to become a Superintendent of Police (SP). His appointment was approved by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, AIG Monday Agbonika, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission.

Police sources familiar with the operations of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit described SP Akaaka as one of the officers who has played key roles in several successful intelligence-led operations carried out by the Command over the years. The sources said his expertise in technical intelligence, operational planning and crime-fighting has earned him widespread respect within the Force.

Speaking with IBN News, a senior police officer, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak officially, described the new O/C as “the right officer for the assignment.”

“SP Akaaka is a tested and trusted operational commander. He understands intelligence-driven policing, has a proven track record in tackling violent crimes, and possesses the experience required to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Unit at this critical time. He is the perfect man for the job,” the officer said.

His appointment comes at a time when security agencies continue to intensify efforts to dismantle kidnapping syndicates, rescue victims and restore public confidence in the safety and security of Edo State.

Security stakeholders and residents are expected to closely watch the Anti-Kidnapping Unit under SP Akaaka’s leadership as the Command sustains its aggressive operations against criminal networks and reinforces its commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.
