DELTA-BORN BRUNEL UNIVERSITY SUG PRESIDENT CHARGES GRADUATES TO CHOOSE PEACE, TRANSFORM HUMANITY

Ogheneruemurode Richard Iyede Jnr Urges Graduates to Use Knowledge for Service, Unity and Global Progress

The President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Brunel University London, Ogheneruemurode Richard Iyede Jnr, has urged the institution’s graduating class to use their knowledge, skills and talents to promote peace, strengthen communities and positively impact humanity.

Iyede Jnr, who hails from the Udu and Agbarha-Warri Kingdoms of Delta State, delivered the inspiring message during the university’s graduation ceremony, describing graduation as the beginning of a greater responsibility to society rather than the end of an academic journey.

Addressing the graduates, he said earning a degree represents one of life’s most significant milestones and demonstrates their readiness to contribute meaningfully to the world.

“Whether you realise it or not, this marks one of the most significant achievements of your lives. You have now symbolically crossed the Rubicon. It signals to employers, institutions, your loved ones and yourselves that you are ready to make your contribution to society,” he said.

Encouraging the graduates to dream big, Iyede Jnr reminded them that their imagination remains their greatest asset and that the opportunities before them are limitless.

Reflecting on Brunel University’s diverse learning environment, he said studying alongside people from different cultures, faiths and backgrounds had equipped the graduates with the understanding needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

He noted that progress is strongest when people work together, adding that humanity is enriched by its diversity rather than divided by it.

Speaking on today’s global challenges, the Delta-born student leader acknowledged the realities of conflict, inequality and uncertainty but expressed confidence that the graduating class possesses the creativity and compassion needed to build a better future.

According to him, knowledge should be used to solve problems, heal communities and create opportunities rather than fuel division and destruction.

He challenged the graduates to measure success not only by professional achievements but also by the positive impact they make on people’s lives.

“The question before you today is not only what you will achieve, but what your achievements will serve. Will your innovation uplift humanity? Will your work bring people closer together and improve the world?” he asked.

Expressing confidence in the graduating class, Iyede Jnr encouraged them to become ambassadors of peace, collaboration, humility and hope wherever they find themselves.

He urged them to remain resilient, compassionate and committed to improving society, reminding them that they are all members of one global human family.

His address received applause from graduates, parents, lecturers and guests at the ceremony and has continued to attract positive reactions on social media for its message of unity, responsible leadership and service to humanity.
