Daughter Petitions Tinubu, Soludo, Security Agencies Over Alleged Murder and Delayed Medical Treatment
The family of a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Regina Nwoye, has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and relevant security agencies, demanding a thorough investigation into her killing and the prosecution of everyone involved.
The petition, signed by the deceased’s daughter, Blessing Uwechia, a broadcast journalist, called for a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident, insisting that all those responsible must be brought to justice.
According to the family, Mrs. Nwoye was attacked at her residence in Ogbu Village, Ivite Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, on July 14, 2026. She was reportedly stabbed multiple times and left with severe injuries after the assailants fled the scene.
The petition stated that residents who responded to her cries for help apprehended one suspect, identified as Sunday Ndukaife, and handed him over to the police. However, the family alleged that eyewitnesses reported seeing more than one person at the scene, raising suspicions that the attack involved multiple assailants.
The family further alleged that the victim’s condition deteriorated after several hospitals reportedly declined to provide her with immediate medical treatment, forcing relatives to move her from one hospital to another in Awka before she eventually died.
According to the petition, the family is seeking the identification and arrest of any additional suspects, as well as an investigation into whether anyone planned, financed or conspired in the killing.
“Our family is not asking for special treatment. We are asking for what every Nigerian deserves—truth, justice and accountability,” the petition stated.
The family also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to keep them informed on the progress of the investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Confirming receipt of the petition, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police had received the complaint but did not provide further details on the ongoing investigation.
