Governor Cites Increased Revenue, Infrastructure Development and Economic Reforms as Reasons for Growing Support
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has declared that residents of the state have resolved to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing Imo as a state that has effectively become a one-party state due to the achievements of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uzodimma made the remarks in Owerri while hosting members of the Presidential Media Tour, where he said the people of Imo appreciate the policies and programmes of President Tinubu, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said significantly improved the financial position of states.
According to the governor, before the current administration came into office, Imo State struggled financially, revealing that after paying workers’ salaries in 2020, the state was left with only about ₦100 million. He, however, said the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023 increased federal allocations to the state, with Imo receiving over ₦10.7 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
Uzodimma said the increased revenue had enabled his administration to execute critical infrastructure projects and improve the welfare of residents across the state.
The governor also disclosed that Imo’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had risen from less than ₦400 million monthly in 2020 to nearly ₦6 billion monthly, while the state’s debt profile had reduced from about ₦287 billion to less than ₦90 billion.
He further stated that his administration had improved road infrastructure and transformed the power sector, noting that Imo now generates, transmits and distributes electricity independently, making the state more attractive to investors and businesses.
“Our people have already decided that they want President Bola Ahmed Tinubu back as President because without him and his policies and programmes, this environment we are enjoying today would have been impossible to achieve,” Uzodimma said.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare, commended Governor Uzodimma’s leadership and commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dare also praised the growth of the APC nationwide, stating that the party now controls 32 states through its governors, describing it as a reflection of public confidence in the party’s leadership and performance.
