ADC Chieftain Urges Adeleke to Remain Vigilant, Raises Concerns Over Osun Governorship Election
Osogbo, Osun State | August 9, 2026
Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his supporters to remain vigilant ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.
Momodu expressed concern over the political atmosphere surrounding the election, alleging that the Osun governorship contest could be used by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to test political and electoral strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC chieftain raised the concerns in a post on X while commenting on the growing political tension surrounding the Osun election.
Momodu questioned whether the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be able to deliver what he described as a genuinely free, fair and credible election.
He also expressed concerns about the perceived independence of the electoral commission, alleging that the Federal Government and the ruling APC could have significant influence over the electoral environment.
Momodu warned that the outcome of the Osun election could have implications beyond the state, particularly because of its proximity to the 2027 presidential election.
He alleged that APC supporters in Osun had been instructed to do everything possible to secure victory for the party, describing the development as part of what he believes could be a wider political strategy ahead of 2027.
In a separate remark referenced in his warning, Momodu said:
“We have a lot of friends in APC and we’ve been warned to expect any eventuality.”
The ADC chieftain urged Governor Adeleke and his political camp not to underestimate the importance of the election or assume that the contest would be determined solely by campaign popularity.
He argued that the manner in which the Osun election is conducted could provide an indication of what Nigerians might witness during subsequent electoral contests, including the 2027 presidential election.
The comments come as political parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation efforts across Osun State ahead of the governorship poll.
The APC is seeking to regain control of the state, while the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun is working to retain the governorship.
The election has attracted significant national attention because of the political alignments surrounding the contest and its potential implications for the 2027 political landscape.
INEC has continued preparations for the election, while political parties and their candidates have urged supporters to remain peaceful and participate in the democratic process.
Momodu’s allegations regarding the electoral process and the influence of the Federal Government remain claims by the ADC chieftain and have not, in themselves, established that INEC will act improperly or that the election will be manipulated.
