Edo House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Agbebaku Announces Two New Transformers, EPU President Donates Transformer Following Renewed Calls for Action

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has assured residents of Eme-Ora in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State that decisive steps are being taken to restore electricity to the community following growing concerns over the prolonged power outage.

The assurance came after IBN News published a report titled “₦10 Million Spent, Yet Eme-Ora Remains in Darkness as Residents Demand Answers,” which generated widespread public attention and renewed calls for urgent intervention.

The matter was also discussed on ITV/Radio Benin’s Man Around Town programme, during which Rt. Hon. Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency, addressed questions regarding the electricity situation in Eme-Ora.

Speaking on the programme, the Speaker described the challenge as complex and disclosed that he had previously provided financial support towards efforts to restore electricity to the community. He further announced that two electricity transformers have been approved for procurement one for Eme-Ora and another for Uhonmora-Ora with delivery expected in the coming days.

Rt. Hon. Agbebaku assured residents that all outstanding issues surrounding the electricity restoration project would be addressed, adding that he has consistently supported electricity projects across his constituency, including assisting communities in settling electricity-related obligations.

In a separate intervention, Dr. Peter Oriaran-Oris, National President of the Eme Progress Union (EPU), and the Oriaran Family have donated a 33kV electricity transformer to support the restoration of electricity to Eme-Ora.

According to an official public notice issued by the Eme-Ora Youth President, Samson Simire, the donation is aimed at ending the prolonged blackout, restoring stable electricity supply, improving security, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing the overall well-being of residents.

The latest interventions follow increasing calls by residents for accountability over the reported expenditure of more than ₦10 million on previous electricity restoration efforts, which they say failed to deliver sustainable power to the community.

While welcoming the commitments made by Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and the donation by Dr. Peter Oriaran-Oris and the Oriaran Family, residents have maintained that questions surrounding the earlier electricity project and the reported expenditure should be transparently addressed to strengthen public confidence and accountability.

Community leaders have also called for close collaboration among government agencies, electricity service providers, community stakeholders and development partners to ensure that the current interventions lead to a sustainable and reliable electricity supply.

IBN News will continue to monitor the delivery, installation and integration of the transformers into the power network and provide updates on efforts to restore electricity to Eme-Ora.
