TINUBU STUNS NIGERIA WITH FAYOSE APPOINTMENT AS NEW REA CHAIRMAN

Former Ekiti Governor Heads Rural Electrification Agency as President Reconstitutes Key Government Agencies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 persons into the boards and leadership of 10 federal government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, appointed as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect.

Fayose’s appointment has attracted public attention because of his long political career and his role as one of Nigeria’s most outspoken politicians. He is expected to lead the REA Board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as Non-Executive Directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three Executive Directors remain members of the board.

President Tinubu also appointed retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was appointed Secretary of the commission, while several other members were named to represent different states.

Other key appointments include Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, and Engineer Julius Oloro as Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation.

The President also approved the constitution of the Board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman alongside six other members.

Also appointed were Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, and Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority.

In another development, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju was redeployed from the National Lottery Trust Fund to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The Presidency said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen the leadership of key government institutions and improve service delivery across strategic sectors of the economy.

The appointment of Ayo Fayose, a former opposition governor known for his outspoken views on national issues, is already generating reactions in political circles and is expected to remain a major topic of public discussion in the coming days.

IBN NEWS will continue to monitor reactions and provide further updates as they unfold.
