Three-Day Intelligence Operation Ends in Gun Battle as Kidnappers Flee, Abandon Victims in Forest
A joint team of operatives from the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the private security outfit led by Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) has successfully rescued an abducted Oyo woman, Adijat Kubura Aliqlas, and her son, Abdulmalik, during a coordinated operation in Kwara State.
The rescue was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Sunday Igboho’s media office. According to the statement, the operation lasted three days and involved intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tracking of the kidnappers’ movements through forests around Bode Sadu before Jebba.
The statement said security operatives strategically lured the abductors into arriving for a planned ransom collection around midnight before launching a surprise attack. A fierce gun battle reportedly followed, forcing the kidnappers to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds while abandoning their captives.
Speaking on the operation, Sunday Igboho revealed that his security team worked alongside ASP Amos Ajegoke and other police officers throughout the mission. He said after the suspects escaped, the operatives combed the forest and eventually located the victims after hearing them cry out for help.
The rescued mother and son were immediately taken to Igboho General Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The statement also credited the success of the operation to the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, noting that the IGP coordinated closely with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states throughout the rescue mission.
Sunday Igboho reaffirmed his commitment to supporting lawful security efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across Oke-Ogun and other parts of Oyo State, while urging Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
