Nigerian Woman Attempts 144-Hour Guinness World Record for Longest Bible Reading Marathon

Habibat Ihiovi-Jack Nears Finish Line in Faith-Driven Challenge to Inspire Deeper Engagement with God’s Word

A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest Holy Bible reading marathon with a target of 144 continuous hours of reading.

The challenge, themed “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 at Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and is scheduled to conclude on July 2 in line with Guinness World Records guidelines.

As of the latest update, Habibat had crossed the 100-hour mark, moving into the final phase of the marathon. Videos circulating online show her reading the Scriptures continuously while digital timers track her progress, with supporters cheering her throughout the exercise.

According to the organisers, the attempt is being conducted under Guinness World Records regulations, which require participants to read aloud continuously, with only limited breaks permitted for essential needs.

Habibat, a member of The Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, described the challenge as a faith-inspired mission aimed at encouraging Christians to develop a deeper relationship with the Bible.

Her Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, said the marathon is more than a record attempt, describing it as a spiritual initiative designed to honour God’s Word and inspire believers around the world.

The challenge has attracted support from family members, church members and well-wishers, while also gaining widespread attention on social media as Nigeria continues to witness a growing wave of Guinness World Record attempts.

Habibat’s effort comes after Nigerian Samson Ajao was officially recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 for setting the world record for the longest marathon reading aloud after reading continuously for 215 hours.
