BREAKING: ABDUCTED CHIEF J.J. EZEOKAFOR, REV. SISTER REGAIN FREEDOM IN ANAMBRA

Police launch intensified manhunt after victims safely return home

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the safe release and return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Reverend Sister who were earlier abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka, Anambra State.

The Police Command confirmed the development on Saturday, August 15, 2026, saying both victims have regained their freedom and safely returned.

The circumstances surrounding their release have not been fully disclosed.

According to the Command, investigators are now working to establish what led to the victims’ release and obtain information that could help identify and arrest those behind the abduction.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the safe return of the victims but ordered security operatives to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators.

The Police said the operation has moved into a fresh phase, with security agencies working together to identify the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

The ongoing operation involves personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba Security Operatives and other relevant security agencies.

The Command said the agencies are combining intelligence and operational resources as the manhunt continues.

The police have also appealed to residents of Anambra to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist investigators.

The Command stressed that timely information from members of the public remains important in tracking criminal groups and preventing further attacks.

The safe return of Chief Ezeokafor and the Reverend Sister brings relief to their families and communities following the reported abduction.

However, the police have made it clear that the matter is not considered closed, as efforts are continuing to establish the identities and whereabouts of those responsible.

The Command urged residents not to take the law into their own hands and to immediately report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

The development comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Anambra, where security agencies have stepped up joint operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities.

The Police Command said it appreciates the cooperation and support of members of the public and called for continued partnership as the investigation progresses.
