ADC EDO NORTH TAKES GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN TO OWAN WEST AS 2027 POLITICAL MOBILISATION GATHERS MOMENTUM

Youth mobilisation records strong turnout as ADC begins wider push across Edo North

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has stepped up its grassroots mobilisation in Edo North as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections, with a strategic youth engagement held in Owan West on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

The mobilisation exercise was led by Comrade Aijolode Edeki, Coordinator of the ADC Edo North Media Promoter Team, as party supporters and youth leaders gathered to discuss the political direction of the constituency and the need for stronger grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Edeki was accompanied by Mr Ohimai Aigboje, the ADC Ward 8 Youth Leader, Mr Julius Ojehomo, Ward 9 Youth Leader, and other members of the ADC Edo North Media Promoter Team.

The meeting, according to the organisers, was designed to sensitise young people at the grassroots about the ADC movement, encourage greater political participation and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the next general elections.

What was expected to be a gathering of about 100 participants reportedly attracted a much larger crowd, with organisers describing the turnout as an indication of growing interest in the party’s activities across Owan West.

The development comes at a time when political activities are gradually increasing across Edo State, particularly in Edo North, as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of 2027.

For the ADC, the Owan West engagement is being presented as part of a broader grassroots strategy aimed at taking the party’s message directly to communities rather than depending solely on political meetings involving party executives and prominent politicians.

The organisers said the strong youth presence demonstrated that young people in Owan West are increasingly interested in having a stronger voice in the political process.

Addressing the mobilisation effort, the National Mobiliser of the ADC, Comrade Ohiozakhai Ajaikaye, expressed appreciation to the people of Owan West for what he described as their impressive response to the engagement.

He also commended members of the Edo North Media Promoter Team and other grassroots organisers for their efforts in building the party’s presence within the senatorial district.

The mobilisation is significant because Owan West remains an important part of Edo North, a senatorial district made up of Owan East, Owan West, Etsako East, Etsako Central, Etsako West, and Akoko-Edo.

Political mobilisation within the district is expected to become more intense as the 2027 elections draw closer, with different political parties seeking to strengthen their structures and win the support of voters across the various local government areas.

The ADC team said the Owan West engagement is not the end of the exercise, but part of a wider programme that will take the party’s grassroots mobilisation campaign to other parts of Edo North.

Following the Owan West meeting, the team announced that Etsako would be the next major stop in its continuing sensitisation and mobilisation programme.

The development is likely to add to the growing political activities across Edo North, where political alignments, grassroots structures and youth mobilisation are already becoming important issues ahead of 2027.

For the young people who attended the engagement, the political conversation is no longer limited to the traditional political class. Youth groups are increasingly becoming central to the mobilisation strategies of political parties, particularly with the growing importance of social media, community-based organisations and direct voter engagement.

The ADC Edo North Media Promoter Team said it would continue to use grassroots engagement to communicate the party’s message and encourage more people to participate in the political process.

The team also called for sustained unity and participation among its members as the party expands its activities across the senatorial district.

While the turnout in Owan West is being celebrated by the organisers as a positive sign for the ADC, the real test will come with the party’s ability to convert political enthusiasm and public gatherings into a functioning grassroots structure capable of reaching voters across wards and polling units.

As the 2027 elections approach, political parties will have to move beyond rallies and public declarations and build strong structures capable of remaining active within communities throughout the electoral cycle.

For the ADC in Edo North, Owan West has now become one of the latest points in that mobilisation effort.

The party’s message remains clear: expand the grassroots structure, bring more young people into the political process and build support ahead of 2027.

With Etsako now announced as the next destination, the political mobilisation in Edo North is set to move into another phase.

The race for 2027 may still be months away, but across Edo North, the political groundwork has already begun.
