FG Lists Gbajabiamila Among Witnesses as ADC, NDC Demand Independent Probe, Call for Chief of Staff’s Removal
Fresh documents obtained by Saturday PUNCH have raised new questions over the Presidency’s claim that the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) never existed.
The documents reportedly show that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) received, acknowledged, and processed an official request from the PFIPC seeking office accommodation through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2024.
The development comes amid the prosecution of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of operating the alleged fictitious agency, forging presidential appointment documents, and falsely presenting himself as the council’s Director-General.
The Federal Government has listed Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and 10 others as prosecution witnesses in the case.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC is a non-existent agency and insisted Adeyemi acted fraudulently.
Opposition parties, including the ADC and NDC, have called for an independent investigation into the matter, with both parties demanding that Gbajabiamila step aside to allow a transparent probe.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has also called for an independent investigation into the controversy, while several civil society organisations have demanded a full probe into the agency’s alleged operations, budgetary allocations, and reported bank accounts.
The case continues before the Federal High Court. The allegations and counter-allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
